Hi Friends! Feb 4-6 Tuesday-Thursday at Boyne Mountain is Test Fest. It's a demo event for ski industry and shops. Though you may not be there with the event if you mentioned being a member of Michigan Backcountry Alliance we can get on a Cardiff Demo. See you out there!

This is a great time to learn the weather maps we have linked! I find these to be most accurate! Current Snow Depth Map: -click on the Go button • a map of the US shows, then click on the state of MI to get a closer look 24 hrs Snow Fall Map: also provides a 6,12,24,30,36,42,48 hr window. • this is not a cumulative map, it's a what to expect the following 6hrs

Michigan Backcountry Alliance will seek partners to provide access to property with permission to glade favorable terrain with beneficial aspects and elevation. Michigan Backcountry Alliance will steward properties in conjunction with the local land manager and be responsible for monitoring the terrain for compliance. ■ Community and Education. Creating an educated culture of backcountry skiers and riders is important to maintain access to public and private land, create safe recreational environments, and increase interaction and communication amongst skiers and riders. Backcountry skiing is the fastest growing segment of winter recreation and we aim to introduce this new sport to winter enthusiasts young and old. By focusing on the social side of backcountry skiing, we hope to foster an inviting community that shares its knowledge with each other. ■ Safety. Inherent risks abound in backcountry skiing. Accidents happen. We want to encourage well-prepared skiers to expect the unexpected. We will partner with groups and industry professionals to provide clinics, seminars and tutorials on best practices in the high alpine environment. ■ Advocacy.Michigan Backcountry Alliance strives to represent the interests of backcountry skiers and riders. Representation is not just in what you may see publicly, such as our efforts to expand terrain, but also what happens behind closed doors. Getting a seat at the table. Making backcountry experiences count. We are in this together and want to have a unified voice that represents the interests of the user group at-large. ● Promo Image Deck ○ I designed these to be generic place holders for information based advertisements via IG and FB. Each one can hold a specific bit of info regarding different aspects of what we're trying to do with MBA E.G= Mission, member recruitment, donations, safety / best practices, news and more ● Dates for Winter Meeting - In Person: ○ When? ○ Where? ○ Activities: ■ Group Tour ■ Uphill/Downhill Event (1.5 hrs/3 hrs/6 hrs) ■ Potluck ● Old Business: ● Avalanche in Boyne - potential to glade here. ○ Letter to city council/city manager?? ● Nubs and Caberfae - need to establish relationships ○ Uphill Access ○ Meetup ● Meet up for members this winter ○ Annual meet up ○ Identify some dates ● Look into insurance ($2500ish) and legal waivers/coverage: ○ www.skikind.org/toolkit ○ Backcountry skiing and riding is dangerous and unmarked obstacles and hazards may exist.
